AUDEMARS PIGUET AT ART BASEL 2016
Audemars Piguet at ART Basel 2016
Audemars Piguet presented a new series of moving image and photographic works by Dan Holdsworth at the Audemars Piguet booth, designed by Sebastian Errazuriz, in the Collectors Lounge at Art Basel (16 – 19 June 2016).
As already mentioned, the lounge is designed by Chilean born, New York-based artist and designer Sebastian Errazuriz. The theme of the stand is based on ‘Water and Ice’. And when I asked him what was behind the idea of the design he answered:
“whats incredible, because of the snow and the ice Le Brassus for long time it has always been isolated. so for six to nearly eight months a year they were blocked out. so this notion that you are completely isolated was actually what gave them the time to develop their technology. they had nothing else to do. so this problem becomes actually something benefitial for them and for us. why not bringing back that driving force as a concept. Originally we wanted a qiant slab of ice inside this space. Audemars Piguet was interested, Art Basel was like: no way it is happening. so we started thinking how do we symbolize this idea in a more economically responsible way.”
The result of his idea is what you can see in the photos below. Sebastian created the design of the booth around the theme of ice, water and winter in the Vallée de Joux. I personally like the ice tank that you can see in the first photo the best. I can stare at it forever!
Another thing that I found out at the press conference was, that the design is inspired by one of Sebastian’s childhood memories. The memory of water dripping into a bucket and the distinct natural rhythm that this caused. Taking inspiration from the visual design codes of ice formations and the beautiful snowed winters in Le Brassus and the Vallée de Joux, the new collectors lounge features a more spacious and luminous design language that resonates with contemporary creative energy. The design reflects the clean purity of nature and the presence of time.
I really like the new Audemars Piguet booth and I could relate very much to the ideas behind the design by Sebastian Errazuriz. Above and below you can see the art deco inspired lamps that fit perfectly into the whole design of the lounge.
WHO IS SEBASTIAN ERRAZURIZ?
Artist, designer and activist Sebastian Errazuriz has received international acclaim for his original and provocative works on a variety of areas and disciplines. Tackling everything from political artworks to giant public art projects, experimental furniture to product design and women’s shoes to motorcycles, Sebastian’s work is always surprising and compelling, inviting the viewer to look again at realities that were often hidden in front of their own eyes.
in case you did not know about him you should def check his website and see his amazing design pieces. one of my favorite is the soup plate that does not need to be tilted to get the last couple of spoons of soup. another cool piece, that I like a lot, is the chop stick that has a fork on one end and can be either used as a fork or broken into chopsticks. besides these he designed really cools shoes but have a look for yourself >> http://www.meetsebastian.com
Inside the booth designed by Sebastian Errazuriz there were a very limited amount of watches in display and the beautiful art works by Dan Holdsworth. Unfortunately I did not have time to visit the gallery in ZH but I did see some of his work online and inside the collectors lounge.
ABOUT DAN HOLDSWORTH AND HIS ARTWORK
The details of a new series of photographic works by Dan Holdsworth has been premiered on the Audemars Piguet booth in the collectors lounge at Art Basel’s show in Basel.
These photographic pieces explore the unique geological formations found in Audemars Piguet’s home, the Vallée de Joux in the Jura Mountains. By referencing the epic timescales by which these rock formations were formed, the works will invite the viewer to reimagine their relationship with time.
Holdsworth’s new moving image work will be accompanied by photographic pieces exploring the unique geological formations found in Audemars Piguet’s home at le Vallée de Joux. In parallel with the new works presented by Audemars Piguet in Basel, Holdsworth’s solo show, A Future Archeology, will open at SCHEUBLEIN + BAK, Zurich on 1 June, running until 2 September 2016. The exhibition will premiere new works from his Continuous Topography and Spatial Objects series, exploring the landscape of the Mont Blanc glacier using the same pioneering technologies to map out the fine detail of the region.
thank you Audemars Piguet for inviting me and organizing my interview with Sebastian Errazuriz. It was a pleasure to feature your booth on my blog. Llike every year it was a blast to be at Art Basel and get the chance to see so many nice things. thank you all! X

OUTFITS – ART BASEL 2016 WEEK
this years Art Basel it was raining constantly and it was a real challenge to pick the right clothes for that week. I had plans to wear some really nice summer sandals that I could wear with almost all of my summery dresses. but due to the rain I had to make some drastic changes to my outfit plans. meaning every dress had to find a matching coat, umbrella and shoes that will not be destroyed by the rain.
I was so honored to wear Natascha’s beautiful designer belts: LITTLE FURNITURE ASSEMBLAGE. for three of my outfits I found a matching belt and these are also the looks that I am going to show you in that post.

and now I wanna show you another lovely combination of a bright color with a beige/white houndstooth coat and a very colorful belt by LITTLE FURNITURE ASSEMBLAGE. I was so happy to see that there was exactly the same blue appearing in the belt. together with the pink and red tones this belt is a true statement piece!

C&A FALL WINTER COLLECTION 2016
thank you C&A for taking me to Amsterdam and showing me the upcoming C&A fall winter collection 2016. with weather in june like this I feel that I am not far away from wearing fall/winter clothes and can not wait to shop my fall winter collection. the weather has been a serious nightmare with endless rain and very cool temperatures. I can not believe that it was warmer in april than it is in june. nevertheless, I wanna tell you a bit more about the presentation of the fall winter collection 2016.
the location of the event was spectacular. there was a beautiful green C&A logo in the entrance that led into a round event hall that had a black curtain drawn all around. after a quick introduction the curtain was lifted and a 360 degree fashion show with the complete fall winter collection 2016 was behind it.
that was a wonderful surprise. we were then divided into groups and got an introduction to every collection: men, denim, lingerie, clockhouse, accessories etc. we were given tags with our name and publication title and had the possibility to give them feedback by hanging them to your favorite piece. let me tell you, there are going to be soooo many cool pieces for the fall winter collection 2016 that it was really hard to place only four cards 🙂
the big thing of the new collection is going to be denim. there is a new collection in bio cotton with new shapes and cuts. we will see the return of flare leg, bootcut and highrise. for men there is going to be a new trend called stacked, that means that the jeans are too long and stack on the bottom. for women there will be a cropped bootcut and cropped flare cut and as already mentioned there is going to be the return of the high rise. my favorite denim pieces are the quitled indigo jacket and the bow tie blouse.
in addition to the new denim collection there is a nature inspired color palette with comfy and warm colors that give you the need to cover yourself up. inspired by the idea that nature should be part of everyday life, the fall winter collection uses organic textures and delicate feminine detailing to create beautiful pieces to wrap up warm in.
there are going to be some really cool pieces like a asymmetric poncho, a checked belted coat or the white knitted longline coat that you can see in the picture below (and in the back you can see a lady wearing the denim bow tie blouse).
aaawww, these are my two favorite pieces, the white longline coat and the short beige faux leather jacket. and soon there will be an overview with my favorite items of the fall winter collection with inspiration on how to wear all those cool new fall winter pieces. stay tuned.
have you been to Amsterdam before? I have been several times and have to say that it is one of my favorite european cities. we were staying at the double tree HILTON very close to the train station which was a great location to explore the city from. in case you have not read my post about AMSTERDAM click here –>

VOLTA, the renowned art fair for new international positions, debuted in Basel in 2005 as a collaboration between dealers and friends. The aim was to secure a platform for international galleries beyond young art stalwart Liste and market heavyweight Art Basel. Concerns and aspirations of the exhibiting gallerists have been first and foremost since VOLTA’s inception; in combination with the curatorial mind of Artistic Director Amanda Coulson, eclectic and dynamic presentations with a strong focus on solo presentations find a stage as refined as at the main fair. VOLTA has already created a brand known and respected for its strict selection of exhibiting galleries and artists, including a growing list of alumni who have graduated to the main fairs. Former exhibitors like A Gentil Carioca (Rio de Janeiro), STEVENSON (Cape Town / Johannesburg), One and J. Gallery (Seoul) and bitforms gallery (New York) ascended to Frieze and Art Basel after exhibiting at VOLTA. Likewise, artists including Theaster Gates, Chris Johanson, Zilvinas Kempinas, Cameron Platter, Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook, and Adrian Williams have shown in prestigious events like the Venice Biennale, the Orangerie (Paris), dOCUMENTA, Art Basel’s Art Parcours and Art Unlimited, following their featured showings at VOLTA.

JUNE 13-18 – 2016 / MARKTHALLE BASEL
yay, I can not wait for the Art Basel week to come where Basel turns into a beautiful international art circus and like the years before VOLTA is showing inside Markthalle, very close to the SBB train station.
my main focus this year will be on Bonnie Maygarden and her works. (you can see one of my favorite above, its called GRAYSCALE II) there is going to be one very special artwork, exhibited in Basel, and I am going to show and tell you more about it very soon here on the blog.
but first let me tell you a bit about VOLTA and their exhibitors.
