VOLTA 13 // AESOP & galleryLOG
Finally the best week of Basel has arrived. The Art Basel week with VOLTA, SCOPE, LISTE, DESIGN MIAMI BASEL and many other side shows. My first blog post about this years Art week is dedicated to VOLTA 13 and their partners AESOP and galleryLOG. Lets start with the AESOP installation by Irena Eden & Stjin Lernout.
German-Belgian artist duo Irena Eden & Stijn Lernout have created a site-specific installation at Aesop’s Spalenberg boutique in Basel, a diaphanous intervention that plays off the building’s architecture in bold, space-defining color and pattern. Their project compliments Eden and Lernout’s solo booth with Krupic Kersting Galerie | Kuk (Cologne) at VOLTA13, which further defines their research into social relationships and cultural cartography via geometric abstraction.

VOLTA 13 // AESOP & galleryLOG
For VOLTA13, GalleryLOG has selected Jane Benson (exhibiting with LMAKgallery, New York), Dennis Dawson (exhibiting with frosch&portmann, New York), Erika Harrsch (exhibiting with RoFa Projects, Potomac), and Rachel Owens (exhibiting with ZieherSmith, New York).

Wielding an interdisciplinary and research-based approach, Jane Benson (presented by LMAKgallery, New York) develops multilayered narratives that deftly transform and relate back to their experimental source material. Her recent series Song for Sebald collaged author W.G. Sebald’s novel The Rings of Saturn to create, as noted in a review by ARTnews, “music between the words.”

Dennis Dawson reuses and rearranges media unearthed from consumer catalogues and other magazines, particularly loose pages that bear some prior purpose. By using material already existing materials, Dawson contributes to a dialogue of shared experience and interconnection.

Butterflies are a recurring theme for Erika Harrsch (presented by RoFa Projects, Potomac), as their distinctive shapes and flock patterns become the basis for exploring migration, sexual identity, immigration reform, and physical boundaries.

Consumer culture and environmental concerns imbue the shattered glass and resin sculptures by Rachel Owens (presented by ZieherSmith, New York). As the centerpiece for her recent solo exhibition at the gallery, Owens cast from the Alley Pond Giant, a 130-foot-tall tulip poplar tree in Queens, New York, and considered the tallest and oldest living organism in the city.
I hope that you will find time to check out this years VOLTA show at Markthalle Basel. I will be there today and am sure that I will see lots of nice things for the blog. stay tunded for more. X

ART BASEL WEEK SCHEDULE

ART BASEL WEEK SCHEDULE

ART BASEL WEEK SCHEDULEArt Basel – Messeplatz
June 16-19 2016
how to get there: TRAM: 6, 2, 1/14 (stop: Messeplatz)
as you may all know, the Art Basel week is my favorite week in Basel. next to the main Art Basel show there are many other side fairs like, Design Miami Basel, VOLTA, SCOPE, LISTE, THE SOLO PROJECT, RHY ART FAIR, PHOTOBASEL, EAF and many more. at the moment I am trying to put together an agenda and share all the highlights with you.
are you familiar with the history of Art Basel?
1970
three Basel gallerists put their passion and determination behind an ambitious vision to form an international art fair. now, Art Basel stages the premier international art shows, providing platforms for galleries and artists from around the world. art gallerists Ernst Beyeler, Trudi Bruckner and Balz Hilt of Basel create an international art fair that proves to be a success from the start. more than 16,000 visitors attend the inaugural show to see 90 galleries and 30 publishers from 10 countries.
1975
only five years after its founding, the Basel show reaches its current size of almost 300 exhibitors. the participating galleries come from 21 countries, attracting 37,000 visitors.
1995
the Art Video Forum platform debuts. Pipilotti Rist and Enrique Fontanilles are the first recipients of the video art prize endowed by the main partner the swiss bank corporation.
2000
the Unlimited platform revolutionizes the classic exhibition booth by creating an open-plan environment that plays host to all types of ambitious contemporary media: installations, monumental sculptures, large-scale paintings, video works, and performance arts. first special exhibition devoted to Artist Books, an art form ordinarily accorded marginal attention at art fairs.
2004
a series of panel discussions were introduced with leading members of the art world providing exclusive access to first-hand information on collecting and exhibiting art. panelists include prominent art collectors, museum directors, biennale curators, artists, art critics, and architects. under the title of Public Art Projects, projects of an institutional scale are presented in the spacious, revamped exhibition area on Messeplatz.
2010
debut of the Parcours sector, expanding the show beyond Messeplatz, presenting site-specific public artworks and performances in the historical neighborhoods of Basel. the new Feature sector, replacing Art Premiere, offers gallerists a chance to participate in the show with historical material, solo shows by artists of all ages and precise curatorial juxtapositions.
this year I will focus on the works of Dan Holdsworth and the design of Sebastian Errazuriz for the collectors lounge booth of Audemars Piguet. stay tuned for more. X

ART WEEK 2015 – SCHEDULE & OUTFITS

the ART Basel week is over and I had such a good time. once again my dear friends from the netherlands were here and this year Justin showed a german artist

ART WEEK 2015
here you can find all my posts from twitter, facebook and instagram.

monday I started with VOLTA11 and ART UNLIMITED and enjoyed myself at the LISTE OPENING PARTY at VOLKSHAUS. tuesday I had breakfast at the Rolls Royce art space inside ELISABETHEN KIRCHE with Isaac Julien and his so very cool video installations from iceland – read more about the project here. and later on I went to see DESIGN MIAMI BASEL and also saw the AUDEMARS PIGUET fireflies installation by ROBIN MEIER – I also blogged about that project – more here. in the evening we had an awesome party on DAS SCHIFF by DESIGN MIAMI BASEL and PERROTIN where we all met TAKESHI MURAKAMI and took funny photos with his staff. wednesday I started my day with DAVIDOFF and went to ART BASEL and SCOPE. later on we had a super nice time at VITRA – we were so lucky that it did not rain that day. thursday I had time to see ART BASEL again but only for a short time as I had to go home and see whether the delivery guy had brought my beautiful dresses by IOANA CIAOLACU for thursday and friday night. thursday night was BASEL NACHT where I was one of the hosts by VOLTA11 and I planned to wear the gorgeous red printed silk dress that had not arrived until fifteen minutes before the start of BASEL NACHT 🙂 but it was absolutely worth to wait for it. friday I had time to see ART BASEL and DESIGN MIAMI again and then spent a wonderful evening at Fondation Beyeler. afterwards we all met at CAMPARI CLUB at KUNSTHALLE.
saturday I had time to see LISTE ART UNLIMITED, DESIGN MIAMI and THE SOLO PROJECT and then went back to VOLTA. sunday I went to SCOPE where I have found something really nice. anyway, I will soon upload all the photos I took during the week and I will also tell you about the guy with the spices at Fondation Beyeler park. stay tuned for more and now I wanna show you some of my outfits during ART BASEL.

GREG HABERNY

Lives and works in New York, NY

Influenced by his background in filmmaking, New York based artist Greg Haberny’s goal for his installations is to transform the gallery space into an all-encompassing experience of sight and sound.  The production and direction of installations echoes his personal background in filmmaking while allowing strong personal expression and freedom with all forms of artistic medium.  With cultural iconography and a sardonic sense of humor, Haberny’s installations engulf and challenge viewers, exaggerating the circus-like frenzy of media and marketing of fear in contemporary American society.

Haberny produces individual pieces that he then incorporates into larger installations.  His process involves cutting, scraping, and affixing painted and found elements including vintage comics, pin-up girls, and advertisements to create heavily worked pieces that retain the evidence of damage or trauma.  Thus his works evoke the pained physicality of bruises and broken bones, which reflects the shattered cultural makeup of our contemporary wasteland.

WHAT HAPPENED IN PARIS?

DSC_0156

I am back from my tiny press trip to PARIS and I have a lot to share with you. these two days were packed with lots of nice things. thank you C&A for inviting me – it was a blast and I met so many interesting fashion people. this morning I made a tiny video where I was rambling about what I have been doing in PARIS – it will be up via YOUTUBE and can be seen here on my blog via the SOCIAL MEDIA category.

20150504_091534

MONDAY 4.5.2015
3 hour train ride from BASEL to PARIS with the TGV – arrived at GARE DE LYON and took a cab to the HOTEL MAMA SHELTER. there I found my MY WEBSPOT pocket WI-FI at the reception and it was super easy to get it started, I just had to press ON and enter the code that was on the back of the pocket WI-FI. ZACK! I was connected to the INTERNET WORLD. thank you so much for letting me use your services while I was in PARIS.

DSC_0135

then I took the metro and went to the stop ALÉSIA where the SONIA RYKIEL outlet shop was and indeed I found something nice there! I will go a bit more into detail about the fashion part in another blogpost. now I wanna continue with the schedule, so after the shopping I met up with all the other bloggers and journalistes from all around europe and we drove with shuttle buses from the hotel to the LE PERCHOIR bar.

20150504_181311

such a pitty that it was raining that very evening when we were at the LE PERCHOIR bar as the rooftop bar is just absolutely stunning with a view all over PARIS.

20150504_181732

after the drinks at the bar we drove back to the HOTEL where we all had a dinner together. well, I dont really wanna talk about the dinner as there wouldnt be much nice to say and I guess by saying that I have just told you everything you need to know. 🙂 after dinner everyone was tired and went to bed. I went for some drinks and returned at about 1:30 am.

TUESDAY 5.5.2015

at 10 AM we were all ready and waited for the buses to bring us to the C&A showroom. there we were welcomed with tea, coffee and croissants.

IMG_6721

and the decoration of the showroom was very very nice. the place is actually a gallery and therefore there was lots of light and white walls and floors.

IMG_6718

I will show you a bit about the location. I quickly spoke to the DJane and I really liked her performance. the whole location was filled with bloggers and journalistes, editors, designers and C&A staff. I took many photos of the collection and will show you soon.

IMG_6685

IMG_6722

alright, now I will start editing the video for YOUTUBE and will start selecting the photos for the FASHION post. I hope you liked the photos that I took and stay tuned for more. X
