WHERE TO EAT IN BUCHAREST AND BRASOV
Holidays in Romania, we did it again. This time we started with Bucharest, where we have spent the New Years Eve, and then travelled to Brasov to see C’s family. We visited and saw so many nice things to share with you.
Like last year, we ate very very well in Romania. I am a Vegetarian and C is a Pescetarian. The dishes you can see below are all without meat. 🙂 Now lets have a look at what we liked.
A3, Bucharest
https://www.facebook.com/A3bar
A3 is the former A1, a great place to start your day, have a snack or meet your friends for an afterwork drink. I am in love with their bucket fries, literally a bucket full of fries. Another dish that I have ordered several times in the last week was the Baby Spinach Salad with Apple. Mmmmhhmmm, absolutely delicious.
SHIFT PUB, Bucharest
http://shiftpub.ro
A cozy, beautiful bistro on a quiet street in the heart of the city. Thats what they say about themselves on their website. And I can only agree with that. Indeed a very cozy place. So far I have only been in Romania in Winter so I never had the chance to eat outside in the beautiful garden. But fingers crossed to hopefully visit Bucharest in Summer too.
PRATO, Brasov
http://www.prato.ro
An elegant, rather posh place to eat with delicious starters and pasta dishes. Of course I can only speak for myself 🙂 but thats what I liked to eat there. The Avocado Tartar starter is definetely something to try. Unfortunately I didn’t take a photo but I can show you the Pasta and sides dishes we had.
DEI FRATI, Brasov
https://www.facebook.com/Deifrati
This place has opened quiet recently and is a real game changer for Brasov. Hands down, these were one of the best house made pasta I have ever had. The interior design of the rather small but cozy place is very simple, with a touch of shabby chic. The restaurant is a family run business and one can really feel that when eating there. There is an open kitchen which I personally love. Watching the chef prepare your food is a really nice thing.
BISTRO DE L’ARTE, Brasov
https://www.facebook.com/bistro.delarte
Like last year it was cold and snowing so we had some warming teas, hot chocolates and snacks at the Bistro de l’Arte. A rather dark and old interior which brings you back to the last centuries and lets you relax and enjoy your stay. I loved the sweet pea soup. Something I can honestly recommend to try.
so, that was it from my first blogpost about Romania and also my first post for 2017. I hope it was helpful and inspiring. Let me know which places are your favorites. X
LUMA POP UP BASEL
LUMA POP UP BASEL
For a limited time – from 15 October 2016 to 1 April 2017 – the “LUMA POP UP Steakhouse at Jonny Parker” offers selected meats in the idyllic pavilion in the St. Johanns Park. They are prepared outdoors on the legendary Green Egg ceramic grill.
The “LUMA POP UP Steakhouse at Jonny Parker” is: undescript and surprising! Only selected fresh meat from LUMA D.A.C. are grilled on the charcoal grill. Calf, beef and pork is matured with natural, noble mold fungus to reach a maximum level of delicacy. An unmistakable aroma which leads to a unique taste excitement. The gastronomic experience also includes delicious side dishes and an attractive wine offer.
All this makes the “LUMA POP UP Steakhouse at Jonny Parker” an exceptional address for a dinner with friends and family or for a special business dinner.
Annika and I arrived at the LUMA POP UP for the pre-opening on Friday, October, 14, 2016 around 7 PM. And we started our dinner night, with delicious butters and different kinds of warm buns. I really love the tiny wooden cutting board and enjoyed the small appetizer a lot. I gotta find out where I can get these cute boards. It would be perfect for butter and jam for my “sunday morning breakfasts on a tray” in bed. 🙂
Now lets have a look at the LUMA POP UP menu. The starters and the main dishes are written on black boards. A very neat idea. Annika chose: LACHS MILLE FEUILLES and the LUMA ART BEEF CUT FILET. I went for the KÜRBISCREME SUPPE and the POP UP VEGI SPECIAL.
Our LUMA POP UP amuse bouche
Our greet from the kitchen was a LUMA meat ball and a vegetarian Knödel with black chanterelles. Annika loved the meat ball and my Knödel was really delicious. It was the first time I had black chanterelle – Totentrompete – a tasty mushroom. (more)
Our starters looked like that. In the first photo you can see Annika’s salmon mille feuilles with dill lemon panna cotta. Followed by my pumpkin cream soup sprinkled with truffle oil and chestnut crumbs.
Let’s have a look at our main dishes. Annika’s LUMA ART BEEF CUT FILET and my POP UP VEGIE SPECIAL. So far everything looked and tasted delicious.
Last but not least we reached the dessert. We were quiet full and decided to share something sweet. Our choice was this lovely creation below called lemon cream. Mmmmhmmm, it tasted divine.
We had a great time at the LUMA POP UP at JONNY PARKER in Basel Switzerland. And will for sure recommend it to you. The owners recommendations are the ASIAN LUMA BEEF SALAD as a starter and the LUMA PORK NECK and the LUMA BEEF BURGER. I found some interesting information on their website:

MY BARCELONA FOOD TIPS
I was in Barcelona for a week. I went with C, the weather was perfect and both of us have already been to Barcelona. now I have some really delicious food tips to share with you. so without further ado, lets start MY BARCELONA FOOD TIPS.
MY BARCELONA FOOD TIP #1
BRUNCH & CAKE // FB
C/Enrique Granados
08007 Barcelona
we had a lovely brunch at brunch & cake. when we arrived, it was really busy. we had to leave our name and wait. after 15 minutes we got a beautiful outdoor table and were ready to order. in case you are planning to eat there I would make a reservation.
we really loved the food presentation. all of our meals were served in different plates. well, in M’s case it was a shovel. 🙂 it was the first time we saw food being served in a shovel and we all thought its an awesome idea. so, what did we eat? we ordered: egg benedict, quinoa burger and avocado toast. mmhhmm, everything was super tasty.
MY BARCELONA FOOD TIP #2
SMS DELICES // FB
C/Asturias 33
08012 Barcelona
this is a spanish restaurant serving tapas but in a very elegant and modern way. I had the best BRAVAS (potatoes with a spicy sauce) and C loved his PULPO (octopus) on the sticks. its a tiny space but very cozy and relaxed with a good atmosphere. we felt almost like at home.
these are the BRAVAS that I was mentioning before. mmmhhmm, look at this creamy spicy sauce that covers the potatoes. and below that photo you can see the PULPO on the stick. we would absolutely recommend to eat at SMS DELICIES and try the BRAVAS and PULPO.
MY BARCELONA FOOD TIP #3
EL NACIONAL // FB
Passeig de Gracia 24
08007 Barcelona
ooh wow. we did not expect such a beautiful space when we walked towards EL NACIONAL. its hidden between the houses at Passeig de Gracia. a place to relax for a moment and enjoy a traditional spanish meal or a refreshing drink. EL NACIONAL used to be a garage and was transformed to this very cozy hall with different restaurants and bars. I really hope that you so far enjoy my BARCELONA FOOD TIPS and I would love to hear from you. which are your favorite places to eat in Barcelona?
thats how the entrance looks like. lots of wood and green with a very nice wooden cobble stone floor. wow. look at this! I really have to go back and eat and drink something in all the different places inside the EL NACIONAL. I was so impressed with the decor so be prepared for lots of photos.
we chose to eat at the LA PARADETA, which was a very great choice. the GAZPACHO soup was one of the best I have ever had. unfortunately I totally forgot to take a picture. maybe because I was taking so many photos of the beautiful location. each restaurant or bar had their own style but everything fot very well together. the nicest thing of each place were the lamps.
the lavatories were really nice as well. a nice mix of materials and a lovely reuse of old pipes and faucets. there were big photos of how this place use to look like. the transformation of the garage to EL NACIONAL.
MY BARCELONA FOOD TIP #4
BOTAFUMEIRO // FB
C/Gran de Gracia 81
08012 Barcelona
‘When the raw material is the best on the market, the only thing a chef need do is respect the product, using the right amount of heat and seasoning to arouse all its flavour and aroma.’
Moncho Neira, Botafumeiro’s owner and chef
BOTAFUMEIRO is a very elegant and very well known restaurant in the heart of Carrer Gran de Gracia. a lot of famous people have dined there and lots of photos are shown at the entrance. (Clinton, Bush, several football players and actors) the place is famous for its fish and sea food dishes. from the entrance the place looks like a normal restaurant. but by walking further I realized how big BOTAFUMEIRO was. there were so many different rooms and platforms. with the white dressed waiters I somehow had the impression of being on a cruise ship. It is a funny and lovely combination of The Grand Budapest Hotel and the The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, two awesome Wes Anderson movies.
MY BARCELONA FOOD TIP #5
CAFE CAMELIA // FB
Calle Verdi 79
08012 Barcelona
thats the place where we have spent our last night in Barcelona and both had an amazing dinner. the funny thing was, that we were looking for a place to eat and were walking down Calle Verdi reading the menus and checking the restaurants. so when I read their menu, I could not belive my eyes. I LIKED EVERYTHING ON THE MENU. thats a very rare thing to happen. and when C came to check the menu too, he finally found out why. CAFE CAMELIA is a vegetarian restaurant. well, now everything made more sense. lol 🙂
we ordered a QUINOA BURGER and COUS COUS VEGETABLE STEW and started with a fresh vegetables/fruit juice. awww, the food was delicious and the waiters were so kind and nice. I will def go back to this place. lets see how fast I can be back in Barcelona 🙂
so, that was it for MY BARCELONA FOOD TIPS. I hope you found them helpful. I took all the photos with my new HUAWEI p9 phone. I am very curious to hear about your favorite restaurants in Barcelona. please leave a comment below. X

what do you have for breakfast?
what do I start my day with?
I love to eat cereals. there are so many different kinds, and I would always choose cereals over müsli : ) anyway, at the moment I am eating the Kellogg’s ALL BRAN regular cereals and I mix them with bananas, berries and honey. my dad has recently started to make honey, and hands down his honey is the best I have ever had, he lives in Grossaffoltern and he has lots of farmers, gardens and forest around his house and he takes great care of his bees.
bees are very important, and I know that there are lots of vegans who say that it is cruel to eat honey. I can agree with the general idea that humans should not eat so much meat and other animal products. I am a vegetarian ever since I was born, and I never liked the taste of meat. BUT when it comes to honey I was always a big honey lover. both of my parents side are making honey, so I never had to buy honey from the supermarket or local market, I got it either form my californian family or from my swiss family and now my dad is in the honey business too. we have to take care of our environment, we should be more aware of what we eat and how it was produced. especially the bees are about to die and we know that when the bees die we will be next.. I have planted special flowers on my balcony so I can help the city bees. there are great movies and campaigns about saving the bees, have a look here and here.
what do you start your day with? let me know in the comments below, I am curious to hear what you are having in the mornings. have a lovely day. X
SIMONE’S HAPPY HEMPSEED SPLODGES
nomnom.. today I did something really nice: I baked with my dear friend Simone and I just had to share her delicious recipe with you. as I am a vegetarian I often ask myself if I get enough proteins thru my daily food. Simone is a chef and she knows a lot about food and nutrition and she told me that by eating a couple of those delicious HEMPSEED SPLUDGES I make sure to cover my daily protein dose. a couple of days ago she brought me a jar of her yummie home made spludges and thats when I knew that I wanna find out about how to make those myself, and of course I had to include all of you because sharing is caring, right?
shoppinglist
250 g OATMEAL
40 g FLAX SEED
40 g SUNFLOWER SEED
40 g HEMPSEED (peeled)
40 g APRICOT (dried)
3 Tablespoon HONEY
3 egg white
step one: MIX the oatmeal, the seeds and the apricots in a big bowl. step two: ADD the egg white and honey. step three: HEAT the oven 120 °C (convection oven) step four: SCOOP tiny splodges to a baking paper on a baking tray. step five: WAIT 25 minutes and let them cool before you touch them – otherwise they might break..
that was a very easy recipe, right? I am eating one of the spludges right now and it is just delicious. mmmhhmmm.. NOTE in case you want to make a vegan version then you can use vegan egg white instead of the egg white and use stevia instead of the honey. for more protein power you can exchange one of the seeds with roasted soy beans and for more crunchiness you can add some chopped walnuts. enjoy baking and have a lovely weekend!
