For the inaugural Audemars Piguet Art Commission, Meier’s immersive installation will be presented at the Volkshaus, Basel. Meier’s large-scale installation will connect disparate fields by harmonising music, fireflies, bioluminescent bacteria and crickets to a common pulse.
The viewer will be invited to walk through the installation to witness all of these self-synchronising organisms and systems beating together, as if driven by a single rhythmic force. This will fill the entire exhibition space with a unique pulsating rhythm. Through the help of Audemars Piguet forming introductions to specialised laboratories and scientists, Meier has traveled the globe to research specific fireflies and insects. Through this, Meier has investigated how this order emerges from chaos and uses this scientific research as a tool to express artistic ideas within his new installation.
well that sounds really interesting and I am very much looking forward to attending the event on tuesday in basel. more info via my social media channels. stay tuned!

about AUDEMARS PIGUET ART COMISSION
The Audemars Piguet Art Commission supports artists in the creation of works of exceptional complexity, precision and experiential impact on an ongoing, annual basis. The commissioned art works are overseen by an annual guest curator and selected by an international jury. They presented to the public to coincide with Art Basel’s editions in Basel, Hong Kong, and
Miami Beach, and subsequently, where possible, at a public art institution. As part of the Commission, Audemars Piguet provides to the invited artist the necessary resources and secures access to advanced tools, craft expertise, or sophisticated technology to realize important new creative projects. http://www.audemarspiguet.com/en/art
Audemars Piguet is delighted to present behind-the-scenes footage of Synchronicity, an immersive installation by Swiss artist Robin Meier, which will be presented as the inaugural Audemars Piguet Art Commission. Meier has worked with the commission’s renowned guest curator, Marc-Olivier Wahler, and Audemars Piguet on the production of a major new artwork to be exhibited at the Volkshaus, coinciding with Art Basel in Basel, 2015. Based on the theme of “synchronicity” and the spontaneous emergence of patterns in nature, Meier’s installation explores the underlying mathematical rules of self-organisation among fireflies, computers, crickets, sounds, and electromagnetic pendulums.
