NARS steven klein

NARS steven klein

1 dual intensity blush / VENGEFUL
2 cheek palette blush / DESPAIR
3 lip gloss / SPECIAL FORCE

wow thank you for letting me already see and test the new NARS steven klein holiday collection, wow, its awesome! I love blushes and went head over heels when I saw the cheek palette and the dual intensity blush. let me start with #1 the dual intensity blush in VENGEFUL, a shimmery golden champagne highlighter and a warm marsala tone. I m sure that both of them can also be used as eyeshadows, so in that case this tiny square makes a 3in1 (blush, highlighter, eye shadow) now lets move on to #2 the cheek palette in DESPAIR, here you get 4 blushes and a brush. two rather light and two more intense blushes. NICO / SAVAGE / ESOTERIC / FEROCIOUS these are the names of the blushes. #3 is a lip gloss but not just any kind of lip gloss. this bugger is pigmented and stays put with a nice shine. I am actually not a big lip gloss fan but I do like this one. the color is so so beautiful, its called SPECIAL FORCE and indeed with this color on my lips I feel like a special force agent, everything is possible! ; )

available in NOVEMBER 2015
by Francois Nars, Steven Klein and design legend Fabien Baron.

who is STEVEN KLEIN? he is a US photographer who worked with Madonna and Lady Gaga. here is what I found via wikipedia: Klein shot high-profile advertising campaigns for various clients including Calvin Klein, Dolce & Gabbana, Louis Vuitton, Balenciaga, Alexander McQueen and Nike and is a regular contributor to magazines including American and Paris Vogue, i-D, Numéro, W and Arena. His work has featured in numerous exhibitions, most recently at the Gagosian Gallery, California and the Brancolini Grimaldi Gallery in Florence. Klein is well known for his W Magazine editorials with Madonna, Tom Ford, Brad Pitt and numerous others. He often works with lighting director David Devlin. He shot the promotional pictures including the album cover of Britney Spears’ third studio album, Britney.

who is FABIEN BARON? he is a french director, art director and magazine editor.
here is what I found via wikipedia: Best known for his iconic ad campaigns and work as editorial director of Andy Warhol’s Interview magazine. Baron is the founder and CCO of Baron & Baron, Inc., a boutique advertising agency specializing in fashion, fragrance and cosmetics luxury brands. He has “shaped the visual identities” of global brands like Calvin Klein, Givenchy, Fendi, and Michael Kors by creating the right mix of television, digital and print campaigns, product and packaging design. Baron creative directed the re-launch of Burberry and had a long stint working with Balenciaga during Nicolas Ghesquière’s tenure. Baron has “created lucrative perfumes for half a dozen designers, including Giorgio Armani.

who is FRANCOIS NARS? he is a makeUp artist and photographer and is the founder of NARS COSMETICS. here is what I found via wikipedia: François Nars was born in the South of France. He was raised under the influence of his mother, Claudette Nars, and was exposed to fashion at an early age. It was thanks to her that he acquired his first job as an assistant to some of Paris’s top makeup artists. After graduating from Carita Makeup school in Paris, in 1984 Nars moved to New York. There, he was recognized for his love of colour and modern style. He also became part of a trio with photographer Steven Meisel and hair stylist Oribe Canales. In the eighties and nineties they produced many magazine editorials appearing in American Vogue, Vogue Italia and Elle. Very quickly, Nars’ popularity grew amongst fashion designers like Marc Jacobs for his ability to create looks that captured the story and feel of their designs. Celebrities like Naomi Campbell and Linda Evangelista also sought out for the artist. His philosophy towards makeup was to use makeup to explore the depths and nuances of individual character, and as a makeup artist, Nars was frustrated by how little product there was for makeup artists. In 1994, François Nars released his own brand of makeup- NARS. After shooting his first advertising campaign himself, Nars found a new creative medium. This lead him to shooting several editorials for major magazines as well as all the Nars’ ad campaigns today. Currently Nars has published four books of his photography. Today Nars remains as the artistic director, in-house photographer, and copywriter for his brand.

THE BAUHAUS #itsalldesign

thats the name of the new exhibition at VITRA DESIGN MUSEUM
(26.09.2015 – 28.02.2016)

I was invited by HUGO BOSS to see the mechanical ballett before the vernissage of the new DAS BAUHAUS exhibition at Vitra Design Museum. that was really something, I have never seen anything like that and I am so happy to have had the chance to see it. during the whole play we were not able to see the dancers. they were hidden behind their geometric shapes in different colors. they moved sometimes alone sometimes together with the slow and fast music. I have found it super interesting to see the moving shapes and to see how with every move a new form and new shape was born. I was sometimes guessing how the people behind must be bending themselves in order to achieve those patterns and moves. also the whole thing had something very architectural. I sometimes saw layers of section plans or weird building shapes. thank you again for letting me see this, it was wonderful.

Das Bauhaus_Exhibition

about DAS BAUHAUS :

With the major exhibition »The Bauhaus #itsalldesign« the Vitra Design Museum presents, a comprehensive overview of design at the Bauhaus for the first time. The exhibition encompasses a multiplicity of rare, in some cases never-before-seen exhibits from the fields of design, architecture, art, film and photography. At the same time, it confronts the design of the Bauhaus with current debates and tendencies in design and with the works of contemporary designers, artists and architects. In this way, »The Bauhaus #itsalldesign« reveals the surprising present-day relevance of a legendary cultural institution. Bauhaus artists and designers featured in the exhibition include Marianne Brandt, Marcel Breuer, Lyonel Feininger, Walter Gropius, Wassily Kandinsky and many more. Contemporary participants include the works of Olaf Nicolai, Adrian Sauer, Enzo Mari, Lord Norman Foster, Opendesk, Konstantin Grcic, Hella Jongerius, Alberto Meda and Jerszy Seymour. The mission of the »Staatliches Bauhaus«, founded by Walter Gropius in Weimar in 1919, was to educate a new type of designer. Students at the Bauhaus were to acquire artisanal and artistic foundations as well as knowledge of the human psyche, the process of perception, ergonomics and technology – a profile that continues to define the occupation of the designer to this day. Yet the concept of design at the Bauhaus also gave designers a comprehensive creative mandate: they were not to merely fabricate objects of daily use, but should take an active role in the transformation of society.

about the exhibition :

The exhibition is divided into four thematic groups, beginning with a look at the historical and social context of the Bauhaus. A second section examines iconic but also lesser-known design objects from the Bauhaus, as well as the history of their origins at the junction of art, craft, technology and industry. A further area of the exhibition investigates the theme of space and demonstrates how many different designers were involved in formulating the understanding of design at the Bauhaus – including stage artists, architects with their deliberations on minimum dwellings and artists who developed colour theories and spatial models. In this regard, the Bauhaus reveals itself as likely to be the first artistic »total experiment« of the modernist period, exploring the dissemination of design in all areas of life. The last section considers the communication of the Bauhaus, from typography and exhibitions to experimental film art and photography as well as the – often systematically planned – creation of myths and clichés that continue to surround the Bauhaus to the present day. »The Bauhaus #itsalldesign« is accompanied by an over 400-page publication, which contains an extensive illustrated catalogue section as well as essays by renowned authors such as Arthur Rüegg and Patrick Rössler along with a glossary of key concepts and terms relating to design at the Bauhaus. »The Bauhaus #itsalldesign« is an exhibition of the Vitra Design Museum and the Art and Exhibition Hall of the Federal Republic of Germany (Bundeskunsthalle). Following its debut at the Vitra Design Museum, the exhibition will open at the Bundeskunsthalle in Bonn in spring 2016.

RIVER ISLAND FLANNEL SHIRT

yay – I can finally show you yesterdays result of the photo shooting. I love the shirt and I was told that it is very comfortable to wear. so for the people who have not read my previous post – read more here >> http://www.isawsomethingnice.ch/saleduck-x-asos << I ordered this grey flannel shirt and a pair of blue cropped pants at the ASOS onlineshop and got a discount using a SALEDUCK.ch code. this is a very simple everyday look and the shirt is perfect for this inbetween season weather. in case you re hot just roll up the sleeves, but for sure you will not use a jacket during the days.. at least not here in basel at the moment. I am sure that this was a great choice as it can be worn with almost every color. the flannel gives the grey a very nice mixed structure so that it can even be worn with different shades of grey. I could also see this shirt in a more elegant way with black pants and leather shoes. lets see if C wants to take more photos for the blog and if so I will of course share them with you. but for sure you will get to see the outfit with the blue cropped pants.

L’EAU D’ISSEY – NEWS

IMG_3583there is a new fragrance in the shops – the new SUMMER EDITION of the well known L’EAU D’ISSEY. and I have more news for you, there is also a new L’EAU D’ISSEY that is called CITY BLOSSOM by Mademoiselle Maurice.

the bottle of the summer edition looks very similar to the regular one but the scent of the is a bit lighter and more floral. the CITY BLOSSOM has a less sweet and less floral base and is a bit more herbal. again I have to admit that I am very bad at discribing scents. : ) this post should tell you that there is something new in the shops and is not a review about the products.

I was a big fan of the L’EAU D’ISSEY scent when I was around 16 and I can still bring back memories by smelling it. somehow I grew out of the scent and I am not wearing it anymore but with the new CITY BLOSSOM this might change it 🙂 I have only smelled it but not worn it yet. lets see it and you guys should see for yourself – visit your next shop and ask for the new summer edition. I am curious if you like it. X

DESIGN CHALLENGE 2015

denim for the next generation – thats the tag line of the DESIGN CHALLENGE 2015 and I really like it. how can we be more sustainable, how can future generations benefit from us? did you know that the jeans industry is one of the most poluting one? I will get back to this topic but first I wanna talk about three of the winners and their design:

JOHN-RANDY ANTHONY, 23

Taking his inspiration from the families of Amsterdam, John-Randy’s aspiration is to develop sustainable, more durable denim for everybody. He wants to design denim garments that are timeless in design, so people can wear them for a lifetime. John-Randy chose the 501 Levi’s Jeans 1954 as his iconic denim style, because these jeans made histo- ry as the first denim for women and were also worn by Marilyn Monroe.IMG_6731

C&A_Design_Challenge_04.15_009DONNA VAN LANGEN, 21

Donna’s style is understated and comfortable and this is what she brings to her design, too: clothes that look good, but are ultimately wearable. She is inspired by women who want clothes that they love but who also care about their beloved family and the environment. Donna chose the Rockmount Western Shirt as her iconic denim piece, because it is the ultimate basic garment. Wearable all year round, it transcends sea- sons and it works for a diverse range of styles.

IMG_6730C&A_Design_Challenge_04.15_012MICHAEL BLES, 27

Michael is a passionate and hardworking team player who loves to be creative and thrives with challenges. He takes his design inspiration from the cafe racers and rebels; the young, wild and free of the 60s. His aspiration is to fuse the old with the new, giving it a contemporary twist that takes the design into the modern day. Michael chose the trucker jacket as his iconic denim style, because it’s a piece of history that will always be reworked by designers and customizers.IMG_6728C&A_Design_Challenge_04.15_004

“The Design Challenge was launched by C&A two years ago to support up-and-coming design talent and explore new creative routes. For the 2015 edition of its annual competition, C&A has partnered with the Jean School of Amsterdam, putting the focus on creating Denim for the Next Generation. As one of the largest players in denim retail on the European high street, the partnership with the Jean School underlines C&A’s dedication to denim. For this year’s competition, eight emerging denim developers from the Jean School were invited to reimagine an iconic denim style for women, men or kids into an innovative and stylish, yet accessible, denim piece that meets a variety of criteria such as price range, sustainable material sourcing and production as well as craftsmanship. Both the sustainability and craftsmanship aspects of the challenge are key components for C&A as part of the company’s long-term strategy.”

It was really nice to talk to three of the winners unfortunately I didnt meet the fourth winner:
JULIE VAN LUIT, 19, she designed the ladies denim trucker jacket: C&A_Design_Challenge_04.15_006
