BASEL SOCIAL CLUB

BASEL SOCIAL CLUB

It’s that time of the year again: ART BASEL 2022 week and somehow it feels like the last Art Basel has just been a couple of months ago, and in fact, that’s actually the case. The last two years have been very different and have affected us all in many ways. Hardly any events, limited gatherings etc.. That’s why I am thrilled to share with you this years BASEL SOCIAL CLUB, a place to sit back, relax, reflect and enjoy!

BASEL SOCIAL CLUB

The BASEL SOCIAL CLUB draws inspiration from time-honored institutions such as The Arts Club (1863) in London or the National Arts Club (1898) in New York, and offers a venue for professional exchange and conversation; inviting visitors to spend time with and around artwork, to meet friends and colleagues, or to simply relax by the pool during the busy week. A public program of performances and other events will take place daily.
The opportunity to get together and exchange ideas is enriched by varied gastronomic offerings. Squadra Ravioli serves coffee, drinks and tacos by the pool and in the garden during the day and in the early evenings.
Every night from 6 p.m. onwards, Peng restaurant invites guests to dine on modern Chinese cuisine and selected wines on the second floor. Cocktails will be served on the ground floor by Gentleman‘s Gin.

Bildrausch Filmfestival 2017

Bildrausch Filmfestival 2017

BILDRAUSCH – FILMFESTIVAL 2017 / BASEL

Bildrausch Filmfestival 2017

The seventh edition of the festival is once again devoted to the seventh art form. The “festival of festivals” brings discoveries to Basel, which have caused a stir thanks to their idiosyncratic film language and uncompromising stories.
An international competition that explores the boundaries of cinema and genres, transcends them, and ventures into unknown territories. A tribute to Terence Davies, this master of passion that glows under a stylised surface: very British indeed!
A retrospective of an icon of Portuguese cinema: Teresa Villaverde unites a subtle as well as wild female perspective with great art. Bildrausch Film Festival 2017 takes a bow before Tony Conrad and Bill Viola with two special programmes, invites you to experience the apocalypse in abridged form, or to unleash your inner dubbing voice at the Film Karaoke or your inner table football player in cinema scope format.
At the end of June, our cinema of powerful images will transfix audiences and filmmakers at the festival open-air venue on Theaterplatz and in the Stadtkino and kult.kino atelier cinemas.
Cutting Edge
Thirteen films from nine countries celebrate their Swiss premieres together with their makers,
and boldly defy narrative norms at Bilrausch Filmfestival 2017. The filmmakers Terence Davies from the United Kingdom, Lissette Orozco from Chile, Nicolas Wackerbarth from Germany, Andreas Lust from Germany, Teresa Villaverde from Portugal, Kogonada from the United States, Everardo Gonzales from Mexico, Romuald Karmakar from Germany, Julian Radlmaier from Germany, Kim Ki-Duk from South Korea, Bruno Ganz from Switzerland and Monika Willi from Austria will personally present their works in Basel. Three top-class exponents of the international film scene – Lav Diaz, Ilsa Hughan and Monika Willi – will decide who goes home with the Bildrausch Ring of Film Art.

Special Programme at the Bildrausch Filmfestival 2017:
Terence Davies – Past and Passion. Memories of post-war Liverpool in the 1950s and stunningly beautiful and passionate literary adaptations: Terence Davies reveals the emotions of his characters and confronts despair, loneliness and the hardships of life with grace. Bildrausch is honouring the great British director with a tribute – at times quiet and sad, at times sober and autobiographical, but always tender and masterful.

Special Programme at the Bildrausch Filmfestival 2017:
Teresa Villaverde – Fragile Punk. For Teresa Villaverde, the cinema is a place of provocation, irritation, even rebellion. Her visually powerful, unconventional and very feminine narrative, her daring mise-en- scène and the balancing act between observation and poetry, which she commands like no-one else, have been challenging us for more than 25 years. Bildrausch invites you to a tightrope walk with the Portuguese director, who is considered one of the most precious secrets of auteur cinema.

Special Programme at the Bildrausch Filmfestival 2017:
Tony Conrad was a giant, both in the literal and figurative sense. The avant-gardist not only wrote music history, but repeatedly turned current paradigms on their head as an experimental filmmaker and as a performance and video artist. Bildrausch is taking a look at the American crossover artist from different perspectives with a video lecture by Tabea Lurk, film screenings and a tribute concert by Lary7.

Special Programme at the Bildrausch Filmfestival 2017:
Bill Viola: the Road to St. Paul and Short Film Programme. For 12 years, Gerald Fox accompanied the American video artist Bill Viola and his wife and artistic partner in crime Kira Perron with his 16mm camera; 12 years, during which the couple struggled with the design and making of the commissioned works “Martyrs” and “Mary” which were to be permanently installed in St. Paul Cathedral. Bildrausch presents the Swiss premiere of the documentary Bill Viola: The Road to St. Paul by Gerald Fox as a Sunday matinée screening in collaboration with the art film festival LE FIFA (Festival International du Film sur l’Art) in Montreal, the worlds largest film festival in the field of art films. After the screening, where Gerald Fox will be present, you will have the opportunity to satisfy your longing for Bill Viola’s works by seeing The Passing (1991) and The Reflecting Pool (1977-1979). Introduction to the Short Film Programme: Jasmin Sumpf, researcher at Schaulager Basel.

Supporting Programme at the Bildrausch Filmfestival 2017
BAR AND GRILL AT STADTKINO BASEL
The Festival Centre at the Stadtkino Basel opens half an hour before the first screening and
remains open until 2am (on Friday and Saturday until 4am). The charming cinema bar, the
cosy Piazza in front of the cinema and the festival lounge invite you to linger and discuss what
you’ve seen. And we make sure your physical well-being is catered for too: Indian specialities,
small snacks and sandwiches are available all day at the bar, and in the evening the legendary sausages of Pippo will sizzle on the grill.
FILM CAFE
Bildrausch, together with Filmbulletin, is asking what cinema does to us. For once, this does
not mean: “How did you direct the film?”, but “Everyone is an expert”. Tereza Fischer talks to
a public figure about his or her impressions after the film screening of Big Big World by Reha
Erdem.
FILM KARAOKE
Have you always wanted to slip into the skin of your favourite film hero? Now you have the
perfect opportunity: after last year’s major success, Bildrausch and Theater Basel once again invite you to a karaoke night of the cinematic kind. For information and registration, please
contact filmkaraoke @ bildrausch-basel.ch
IT’S THE END OF THE WORLD… AS YOU CHOSE IT!
Flaming infernos, air disasters, devastating plagues – reduced to a few minutes. In the 1970s
and 1980s, impatient viewers purchased Viewers Digest versions of major cinema hits on Super-8. The Bildrausch Salon invites you to an on-demand programme of bizarre works
about the apocalypse.
BEAT THE ARTIST
The table football tournament on the Piazza in front of the Stadtkino invites journalists, jury members and filmmakers to challenge each others sporting abilities. Five festival visitors will have the opportunity to obtain a wild card to the tournament.

hypnosis and what it did to me

HYPNOSIS AND WHAT IT DID TO ME

hypnosis and what it did to me
The term “hypnosis” comes from the ancient Greek word ὕπνος hypnos, “sleep”, and the suffix -ωσις -osis, or from ὑπνόω hypnoō, “put to sleep” (stem of aorist hypnōs-) and the suffix -is. Hypnosis is a state of human consciousness involving focused attention and reduced peripheral awareness and an enhanced capacity to respond to suggestion. The term may also refer to an art, skill, or act of inducing hypnosis.
Theories explaining what occurs during hypnosis fall into two groups. Altered state theories see hypnosis as an altered state of mind or trance, marked by a level of awareness different from the ordinary conscious state. In contrast, nonstate theories see hypnosis as a form of imaginative role enactment. During hypnosis, a person is said to have heightened focus and concentration. The person can concentrate intensely on a specific thought or memory, while blocking out sources of distraction. Hypnotised subjects are said to show an increased response to suggestions.
Hypnosis is usually induced by a procedure known as a hypnotic induction involving a series of preliminary instructions and suggestion. The use of hypnotism for therapeutic purposes is referred to as “hypnotherapy”, while its use as a form of entertainment for an audience is known as “stage hypnosis”. Stage hypnosis is often performed by mentalists practicing the art form of mentalism.
That’s what I have found via wikipedia.org https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypnosis

hypnosis and what it did to me

I guess we all have heard about hypnosis and have seen it in films or like described in the last paragraph on stage to entertain audience. A lot of people see it as something dark or something that is being used to manipulate people and that is why I want to share my very personal experience with hypnosis with all of you.
There are many reasons to get involved with hypnosis, be it to loose weight, get rid of stage freight or other phobias or the general need to relax ones body and mind. In my case I was very interested in the last mentioned one. A deep form of relaxation is exactly what I needed and got from my hypnosis experience.
I went in and had very little expectations about what is going to happen and only had the sketchy visuals from the movies or cartoons where people stare on to black and white rotating patterns that make them dizzy and fall asleep. So I had no idea what to expect and I think that was a very good thing.
So when I had my appointment I first had a very nice chat with Nadia and we were talking about my over all well being, what is present in my life and what I want from my hypnosis session. As I have already told you my goal was to relax my body and mind deeply. We were ready to start and that meant that I had to lay down on her bed and was covered with blankets. In the state of hypnosis the body cools down and therefor it is very important to keep yourself warm and comfortable.
hypnosis and what it did to me
She started to play relaxing music and took me on a visual journey that left all my thoughts and worries behind and that let me focus on only what she was saying.  That was a life changing experience and somehow it felt more like a form of meditation. Nadia’s soothing voice has brought me to a deep state of relaxation. It was unbelievable that I was on one side very aware of what was happening, meaning I was still listening to her voice and what she was saying but on the other hand I was far far away almost floating on clouds and being close to dreaming and dozing off.
The wonderful thing for me was that I lost the feeling of time, I had no idea for how long I was laying there, if it were 20 minutes or one and a half hours. This felt so good. The same way you are being led into hypnosis you are also brought out of it, very conscious. It feels good to still lay down with open eyes for a couple of minutes after being released from the state of hypnosis.
I have felt so light and wonderful after my hypnosis session. What a wonderful experience with such a huge benefit for my body and mind. I really want to go back to that place where Nadia took me, that place where I was as light as a feather, very relaxed and calm. When ever I have a stressful day I try to take myself back to that place. Something that is not very easy to do and does not always work.
Now that I have dropped the word meditation I also want to share with you the definition I have found via wikipedia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meditation
Meditation is a practice where an individual trains the mind or induces a mode of consciousness, either to realize some benefit or for the mind to simply acknowledge its content without becoming identified with that content, or as an end in itself.
The term meditation refers to a broad variety of practices that includes techniques designed to promote relaxation, build internal energy or life force (qi, ki, prana, etc.) and develop compassion, love, patience, generosity, and forgiveness. A particularly ambitious form of meditation aims at effortlessly sustained single-pointed concentration meant to enable its practitioner to enjoy an indestructible sense of well-being while engaging in any life activity.
The word meditation carries different meanings in different contexts. Meditation has been practiced since antiquity as a component of numerous religious traditions and beliefs. Meditation often involves an internal effort to self-regulate the mind in some way. Meditation is often used to clear the mind and ease many health concerns, such as high blood pressure, depression, and anxiety. It may be done sitting, or in an active way—for instance, Buddhist monks involve awareness in their day-to-day activities as a form of mind-training. Prayer beads or other ritual objects are commonly used during meditation in order to keep track of or remind the practitioner about some aspect of that training.
Meditation may involve generating an emotional state for the purpose of analyzing that state—such as anger, hatred, etc.—or cultivating a particular mental response to various phenomena, such as compassion. The term “meditation” can refer to the state itself, as well as to practices or techniques employed to cultivate the state.
Meditation may also involve repeating a mantra and closing the eyes. The mantra is chosen based on its suitability to the individual meditator. Meditation has a calming effect and directs awareness inward until pure awareness is achieved, described as “being awake inside without being aware of anything except awareness itself.” In brief, there are dozens of specific styles of meditation practice, and many different types of activity commonly referred to as meditative practices.

MODE SUISSE edition 11 - swiss fashion design

MODE SUISSE Edition 11 – Swiss Fashion Design

Mikki Levy Strasser (ZH) has visited this years Mode Suisse Edition 11 for isawsomethingnice.ch and will tell us all about the news and hits of this years fashion collections. In the photo below you can see Mikki holding an issu_issu bag. Thank you Mikki for writing this blogpost and for sharing your opinion. X

MODE SUISSE Edition 11 - swiss fashion

Mode Suisse Edition 11 – Swiss fashion design design
The 11th Edition of the Mode Suisse happened on March 7th at the Löwenbräu Areal in Zurich. Mode Suisse is an event that showcases Swiss fashion designers and their new collections. There was much to be seen this time!
The evening started with a Pre-view Cocktail where a few selected people had the chance to see the space before they had to leave the room and move to the upper floor where the L shaped Catwalk was. The runway floors were covered in carpets by the Swiss designers Schönstaub which gave the room that extra something.

MODE SUISSE Edition 11 - swiss fashion

The show started BIG! Julia Seemann blew us away last time and she did it again. It was the perfect twist of street chic and 90s that is so in fashion right now. She showed the crowd that she is right at the pulse of time. Gurls get yourself a pair of patent leather over-knee boots. It is not a hooker thing anymore with this collection.

MODE SUISSE Edition 11 - swiss fashion

MODE SUISSE Edition 11 - swiss fashion

The students of HEAD (Haute École d’Art et de Design) from Geneva showed very interesting modern pieces. I especially loved the oversized faux-fur coats by Jeremy Gaillard. Also I loved the play with proportions. It was one of these pieces that I would have loved to try on and take home. If people would see me with this on the street in Zurich they would think I am crazy. But who cares, a reason more for me to want one! It is not easy to be a peacock in a grey world, but it is a lot of fun!

MODE SUISSE Edition 11 - swiss fashion design

Following the students from Geneva was the traditional design house from Zurich, En Soie. I loved the pink cashmere sweaters and the cotton bomber jackets with the logo on the back. This collections was sticking to their roots and was showing us the evergreens they have been producing ever since. I loved it and my advise to everyone is: invest in evergreens!

MODE SUISSE Edition 11 - swiss fashion design MODE SUISSE Edition 11 - swiss fashion design
MODE SUISSE Edition 11 - swiss fashion design

The Basel based design team WuethrichFuerst showed some big and bold prints with seat belts and golden metallic blocks as details. It was interesting and iI will keep an eye on them from now on.

MODE SUISSE Edition 11 - swiss fashion design

Now lets talk about something nice for men: the collection by Julian Zigerli. The models came out on to the runway as one solid group all holding each other. One after the other left the group and made it’s way down and around the corner where they lay down on the floor to come together as a group again. Something that was already seen at his Paris fashion week presentation. It must have been an amazing experience to see that life. As always he showed fun prints in different shades of green. Green checkered pants. Fine rip top and trousers in dark green. Coats with leo-prints and an oversized jumper with a big cat face on the front. It was fun, playful and wearable. If I have some money to spend it will definitely be at Zigerli.

MODE SUISSE Edition 11 - swiss fashion design

After the show a lot of the people met again downstairs to talk about what they saw and to look at each other. It was there where i spotted the girls from the new brand issu_issu (www.issuissu.com). They showed me their beautiful hand bags that have a clear PET shell and an inner bag with an amazing print. I immediately grabbed it and told them I want one. This is way more than just a cool hand bag. This is an art piece. I can not wait to get one and put it up in my room.
To sum it all up. This edition once more showed that Swiss fashion can be daring and right at the pulse of time, yet it has the freedom to be itself.
So long, for I saw something nice.
Yours Mikki

PINK RIBBON CHARITY WALK 2016 with LUBEX ANTI-AGE

PINK RIBBON CHARITY WALK 2016

The Pink Ribbon Charity walk was a big success. I had lots of fun with TEAM LUBEX ANTI-AGE with whom I ran already last year. Pink Ribbon Charity Walk is taking place for the ninth time with 5,000 runners from 22 Swiss cantons.
Overall CHF 88,000 were raised and donated to the Swiss Cancer League. The annual breast cancer solidarity event has once again demonstrated the solidarity of the Swiss population with those affected, because the Pink Ribbon Walk is not about their own victory, but about putting a big sign in the fight against breast cancer in the community.

PINK RIBBON CHARITY WALK 2016

PINK RIBBON CHARITY WALK 2016

LUBEX anti-age had a booth at the Stadion. There they were handing out samples and gave helpful information about their awesome products. At the booth one had the chance to get a free hand massage treatment with the Lubex anti-age hydration oil. I would have never thought to use this oil for the hands, but indeed it works super well.

PINK RIBBON CHARITY WALK 2016

The PINK RIBBON CHARITY WALK 2016 was lots of fun. I heard that it was fully booked three days in advance. Thats awesome! In case you wanna run for a good cause next year check pink-ribbon.ch for more information.

C&A fall winter collection 2016

C&A FALL WINTER COLLECTION 2016

C&A fall winter collection 2016
thank you C&A for taking me to Amsterdam and showing me the upcoming C&A fall winter collection 2016. with weather in june like this I feel that I am not far away from wearing fall/winter clothes and can not wait to shop my fall winter collection. the weather has been a serious nightmare with endless rain and very cool temperatures. I can not believe that it was warmer in april than it is in june. nevertheless, I wanna tell you a bit more about the presentation of the fall winter collection 2016.
the location of the event was spectacular. there was a beautiful green C&A logo in the entrance that led into a round event hall that had a black curtain drawn all around. after a quick introduction the curtain was lifted and a 360 degree fashion show with the complete fall winter collection 2016 was behind it.
C&A fall winter collection 2016
that was a wonderful surprise. we were then divided into groups and got an introduction to every collection: men, denim, lingerie, clockhouse, accessories etc. we were given tags with our name and publication title and had the possibility to give them feedback by hanging them to your favorite piece. let me tell you, there are going to be soooo many cool pieces for the fall winter collection 2016 that it was really hard to place only four cards 🙂
C&A fall winter collection 2016
the big thing of the new collection is going to be denim. there is a new collection in bio cotton with new shapes and cuts. we will see the return of flare leg, bootcut and highrise. for men there is going to be a new trend called stacked, that means that the jeans are too long and stack on the bottom. for women there will be a cropped bootcut and cropped flare cut and as already mentioned there is going to be the return of the high rise. my favorite denim pieces are the quitled indigo jacket and the bow tie blouse.
in addition to the new denim collection there is a nature inspired color palette with comfy and warm colors that give you the need to cover yourself up. inspired by the idea that nature should be part of everyday life, the fall winter collection uses organic textures and delicate feminine detailing to create beautiful pieces to wrap up warm in.
there are going to be some really cool pieces like a asymmetric poncho, a checked belted coat or the white knitted longline coat that you can see in the picture below (and in the back you can see a lady wearing the denim bow tie blouse).
C&A fall winter collection 2016
aaawww, these are my two favorite pieces, the white longline coat and the short beige faux leather jacket. and soon there will be an overview with my favorite items of the fall winter collection with inspiration on how to wear all those cool new fall winter pieces. stay tuned.

thank you very much for inviting me to the BAUHAUS-INSPIRED DESIGN event at the HUGO BOSS store in Basel. It was super nice to meet the Hugo Boss Team and I got to see lots and lots of nice pieces from the fall/winter collection and also some really nice pieces from the BOSS WOMEN capsule collection.

the food and beverages were very nicely served and tasted delicious. the water was served in those fancy vintage water dispensers, I have no clue what the correct term for that is. in case you know please leave a comment below. I heard that they were especially rented from a collector just for that very event. I had a very tasty refreshing home made lemonade, a seasonal mushroom soup and delicious chocolate, that I never thought I would like as it was made with olive oil. I was really happy that I was brave enough to try it – I think I had at least three or four pieces. it was delicous, big UP for the catering from ZH!

and now lets talk about the gorgeous fall/winter capsule collection by JASON WU for BOSS WOMEN. there were some of the pieces in the shop to have a look at, unfortunately this collection will not be sold in Basel. but I m sure that the ladies who wanna buy something from this collection, they will find a way to get it in a shop that sells it : ) more about the shops and where to find the collection on the HUGO BOSS website.

these two pieces are inspired by ANNI ALBERS the famous german/american textile artist and printmaker. the skirt and the coat are very much related to a carpet that ANNI once designed. JASON WU designed the BOSS WOMEN capsule collection and they found an italian family business that made the tweed for them. another stunning piece are the black, grey, orange boots EMERALD BOOTIE F with a very special detail on the heel that I unfortunately forgot to capture but you can see them here >> I was only able to find the black and white ones but you can really see the nice detail on the heel.

thank you for the give away – I love it and I just made some space on my coffee table. it is indeed the perfect coffee table book. that was it from the event in Basel. X

THE BAUHAUS #itsalldesign

thats the name of the new exhibition at VITRA DESIGN MUSEUM
(26.09.2015 – 28.02.2016)

I was invited by HUGO BOSS to see the mechanical ballett before the vernissage of the new DAS BAUHAUS exhibition at Vitra Design Museum. that was really something, I have never seen anything like that and I am so happy to have had the chance to see it. during the whole play we were not able to see the dancers. they were hidden behind their geometric shapes in different colors. they moved sometimes alone sometimes together with the slow and fast music. I have found it super interesting to see the moving shapes and to see how with every move a new form and new shape was born. I was sometimes guessing how the people behind must be bending themselves in order to achieve those patterns and moves. also the whole thing had something very architectural. I sometimes saw layers of section plans or weird building shapes. thank you again for letting me see this, it was wonderful.

Das Bauhaus_Exhibition

about DAS BAUHAUS :

With the major exhibition »The Bauhaus #itsalldesign« the Vitra Design Museum presents, a comprehensive overview of design at the Bauhaus for the first time. The exhibition encompasses a multiplicity of rare, in some cases never-before-seen exhibits from the fields of design, architecture, art, film and photography. At the same time, it confronts the design of the Bauhaus with current debates and tendencies in design and with the works of contemporary designers, artists and architects. In this way, »The Bauhaus #itsalldesign« reveals the surprising present-day relevance of a legendary cultural institution. Bauhaus artists and designers featured in the exhibition include Marianne Brandt, Marcel Breuer, Lyonel Feininger, Walter Gropius, Wassily Kandinsky and many more. Contemporary participants include the works of Olaf Nicolai, Adrian Sauer, Enzo Mari, Lord Norman Foster, Opendesk, Konstantin Grcic, Hella Jongerius, Alberto Meda and Jerszy Seymour. The mission of the »Staatliches Bauhaus«, founded by Walter Gropius in Weimar in 1919, was to educate a new type of designer. Students at the Bauhaus were to acquire artisanal and artistic foundations as well as knowledge of the human psyche, the process of perception, ergonomics and technology – a profile that continues to define the occupation of the designer to this day. Yet the concept of design at the Bauhaus also gave designers a comprehensive creative mandate: they were not to merely fabricate objects of daily use, but should take an active role in the transformation of society.

about the exhibition :

The exhibition is divided into four thematic groups, beginning with a look at the historical and social context of the Bauhaus. A second section examines iconic but also lesser-known design objects from the Bauhaus, as well as the history of their origins at the junction of art, craft, technology and industry. A further area of the exhibition investigates the theme of space and demonstrates how many different designers were involved in formulating the understanding of design at the Bauhaus – including stage artists, architects with their deliberations on minimum dwellings and artists who developed colour theories and spatial models. In this regard, the Bauhaus reveals itself as likely to be the first artistic »total experiment« of the modernist period, exploring the dissemination of design in all areas of life. The last section considers the communication of the Bauhaus, from typography and exhibitions to experimental film art and photography as well as the – often systematically planned – creation of myths and clichés that continue to surround the Bauhaus to the present day. »The Bauhaus #itsalldesign« is accompanied by an over 400-page publication, which contains an extensive illustrated catalogue section as well as essays by renowned authors such as Arthur Rüegg and Patrick Rössler along with a glossary of key concepts and terms relating to design at the Bauhaus. »The Bauhaus #itsalldesign« is an exhibition of the Vitra Design Museum and the Art and Exhibition Hall of the Federal Republic of Germany (Bundeskunsthalle). Following its debut at the Vitra Design Museum, the exhibition will open at the Bundeskunsthalle in Bonn in spring 2016.
