Finally the best week of Basel has arrived. The Art Basel week with VOLTA, SCOPE, LISTE, DESIGN MIAMI BASEL and many other side shows. My first blog post about this years Art week is dedicated to VOLTA 13 and their partners AESOP and galleryLOG. Lets start with the AESOP installation by Irena Eden & Stjin Lernout.
German-Belgian artist duo Irena Eden & Stijn Lernout have created a site-specific installation at Aesop’s Spalenberg boutique in Basel, a diaphanous intervention that plays off the building’s architecture in bold, space-defining color and pattern. Their project compliments Eden and Lernout’s solo booth with Krupic Kersting Galerie | Kuk (Cologne) at VOLTA13, which further defines their research into social relationships and cultural cartography via geometric abstraction.

VOLTA 13 // AESOP & galleryLOG
For VOLTA13, GalleryLOG has selected Jane Benson (exhibiting with LMAKgallery, New York), Dennis Dawson (exhibiting with frosch&portmann, New York), Erika Harrsch (exhibiting with RoFa Projects, Potomac), and Rachel Owens (exhibiting with ZieherSmith, New York).

Wielding an interdisciplinary and research-based approach, Jane Benson (presented by LMAKgallery, New York) develops multilayered narratives that deftly transform and relate back to their experimental source material. Her recent series Song for Sebald collaged author W.G. Sebald’s novel The Rings of Saturn to create, as noted in a review by ARTnews, “music between the words.”

Dennis Dawson reuses and rearranges media unearthed from consumer catalogues and other magazines, particularly loose pages that bear some prior purpose. By using material already existing materials, Dawson contributes to a dialogue of shared experience and interconnection.

Butterflies are a recurring theme for Erika Harrsch (presented by RoFa Projects, Potomac), as their distinctive shapes and flock patterns become the basis for exploring migration, sexual identity, immigration reform, and physical boundaries.

Consumer culture and environmental concerns imbue the shattered glass and resin sculptures by Rachel Owens (presented by ZieherSmith, New York). As the centerpiece for her recent solo exhibition at the gallery, Owens cast from the Alley Pond Giant, a 130-foot-tall tulip poplar tree in Queens, New York, and considered the tallest and oldest living organism in the city.
I hope that you will find time to check out this years VOLTA show at Markthalle Basel. I will be there today and am sure that I will see lots of nice things for the blog. stay tunded for more. X

ONE DRESS - MANY WAYS TO WALK IT

ONE DRESS – MANY WAYS TO WALK IT

ONE DRESS – MANY WAYS TO WALK IT

one dress - many ways to walk it

I am so in love with this new dress that I have found in one of my favorite shops in Basel: Le Mouton a 5 Pates. A super simple grey SILVIAN HEACH dress to wear in many different ways. Today I wanna show you that you can wear the same dress and only change the shoes. A very simple way to make your dresses more versatile.
one dress – many ways to walk it #1
lets start with the comfiest and easiest way to walk: Sneakers. A pair of black sneakers should be key to every wardrobe. A very easy way to dress down a nice dress.

Metallic shoes were quiet a big trend. And I found my silver shoes in C&A on SALE for 19 CHF. An amazing bargain. Not only great to dress up your look in a comfy way but also perfect to jazz up a simple jeans and sweatshirt look.

And now a very easy way to upgrade your dress by wearing black heels. In my opinion every lady should have a pair of black heels. No matter if the heel height is only 2 cm.

Simple black flats, also something that we all should own. Nothing works better to make a chic outfit look more casual. I found these babes at ALDO in Marseille.

Boots are a great way to wear a dress in winter. I found these wedge boots at the Zalando Lounge Sale. They are very comfy to walk in due to the wedge heel. Black boots are perfect becasue they are working with so many different colors and looks. I am not so sure anymore whether I like these kind of boots with jeans. It somehow reminds me of the late 90s, early 2000, when this boot over skinny jean was a big success. Maybe with a pair of over the knee boots, who knows.

I wanna thank Miguel for taking the photos of me, it was quiet an adventure. We found this little platform on the water (Rhein) that was perfect to take the photos. I was able to get there with almost all the shoes, except for the wedge boots that you can see in the photo above.
Here is a photo that shows how hard it was to get to that tiny platform. I was prepared to fall in the super cold water but luckily didn’t. 🙂 Have a lovely day. X

NARS steven klein

NARS steven klein

1 dual intensity blush / VENGEFUL
2 cheek palette blush / DESPAIR
3 lip gloss / SPECIAL FORCE

wow thank you for letting me already see and test the new NARS steven klein holiday collection, wow, its awesome! I love blushes and went head over heels when I saw the cheek palette and the dual intensity blush. let me start with #1 the dual intensity blush in VENGEFUL, a shimmery golden champagne highlighter and a warm marsala tone. I m sure that both of them can also be used as eyeshadows, so in that case this tiny square makes a 3in1 (blush, highlighter, eye shadow) now lets move on to #2 the cheek palette in DESPAIR, here you get 4 blushes and a brush. two rather light and two more intense blushes. NICO / SAVAGE / ESOTERIC / FEROCIOUS these are the names of the blushes. #3 is a lip gloss but not just any kind of lip gloss. this bugger is pigmented and stays put with a nice shine. I am actually not a big lip gloss fan but I do like this one. the color is so so beautiful, its called SPECIAL FORCE and indeed with this color on my lips I feel like a special force agent, everything is possible! ; )

available in NOVEMBER 2015
by Francois Nars, Steven Klein and design legend Fabien Baron.

who is STEVEN KLEIN? he is a US photographer who worked with Madonna and Lady Gaga. here is what I found via wikipedia: Klein shot high-profile advertising campaigns for various clients including Calvin Klein, Dolce & Gabbana, Louis Vuitton, Balenciaga, Alexander McQueen and Nike and is a regular contributor to magazines including American and Paris Vogue, i-D, Numéro, W and Arena. His work has featured in numerous exhibitions, most recently at the Gagosian Gallery, California and the Brancolini Grimaldi Gallery in Florence. Klein is well known for his W Magazine editorials with Madonna, Tom Ford, Brad Pitt and numerous others. He often works with lighting director David Devlin. He shot the promotional pictures including the album cover of Britney Spears’ third studio album, Britney.

who is FABIEN BARON? he is a french director, art director and magazine editor.
here is what I found via wikipedia: Best known for his iconic ad campaigns and work as editorial director of Andy Warhol’s Interview magazine. Baron is the founder and CCO of Baron & Baron, Inc., a boutique advertising agency specializing in fashion, fragrance and cosmetics luxury brands. He has “shaped the visual identities” of global brands like Calvin Klein, Givenchy, Fendi, and Michael Kors by creating the right mix of television, digital and print campaigns, product and packaging design. Baron creative directed the re-launch of Burberry and had a long stint working with Balenciaga during Nicolas Ghesquière’s tenure. Baron has “created lucrative perfumes for half a dozen designers, including Giorgio Armani.

who is FRANCOIS NARS? he is a makeUp artist and photographer and is the founder of NARS COSMETICS. here is what I found via wikipedia: François Nars was born in the South of France. He was raised under the influence of his mother, Claudette Nars, and was exposed to fashion at an early age. It was thanks to her that he acquired his first job as an assistant to some of Paris’s top makeup artists. After graduating from Carita Makeup school in Paris, in 1984 Nars moved to New York. There, he was recognized for his love of colour and modern style. He also became part of a trio with photographer Steven Meisel and hair stylist Oribe Canales. In the eighties and nineties they produced many magazine editorials appearing in American Vogue, Vogue Italia and Elle. Very quickly, Nars’ popularity grew amongst fashion designers like Marc Jacobs for his ability to create looks that captured the story and feel of their designs. Celebrities like Naomi Campbell and Linda Evangelista also sought out for the artist. His philosophy towards makeup was to use makeup to explore the depths and nuances of individual character, and as a makeup artist, Nars was frustrated by how little product there was for makeup artists. In 1994, François Nars released his own brand of makeup- NARS. After shooting his first advertising campaign himself, Nars found a new creative medium. This lead him to shooting several editorials for major magazines as well as all the Nars’ ad campaigns today. Currently Nars has published four books of his photography. Today Nars remains as the artistic director, in-house photographer, and copywriter for his brand.

a rather casual and comfy outfit that I am showing you today. but I am very happy with my newest purchase of jeans. in fact they are my new favorite jeans. I found out that the perfect length for me is to buy short sizes. luckily C&A runs short (and long) sizes and the 36 short fits me perfectly. another favorite of mine is the NINO BOLLAG jacket – a great piece to slack over almost every outfit. I guess thats why it is a favorite. when I think about my favorite clothing items I see that many of them can be worn in various ways with lots of different other things. what is your favorite piece? let me know. xx

MY PONCHO LOOK

HAPPY SUNDAY!

I am getting into a cosy fall mood with my scottish wool poncho. thank you dad & monika for bringing me this awesome piece from Scottland! tartan or plaid however you wanna call it is really BIG this season and you can see it everywhere. I love the combination of wool and plaid – like this the fall feeling shows off best and gets you into a cuddling mood. what I love about plaid is that you can mix and match it with almost everything. here I was going for a rather classy elegant look but there are so many other ways to wear plaid. I think it is time for a plaid special. I did one last year already when I fell in love with the plaid skirt by MINT&BERRY – read more here « and here «

shading blue!

one of my favorite things about fashion is to mix and match or mismatch! and the best thing is to stay within one color but try to wear different shades of the same color as I did it with my outfit above! often I do it with blue grey or brown as I think these colors have the most beautiful shades and will not make you look too colorful!

NEW COAT by esprit.ch

fall has started and I am putting together my wardrobe for the season. I found this lovely coat at the esprit onlineshop and I couldnt resist – this was an immediate purchase and I have not regret it yet 🙂 in the photo I am wearing the coat with black fake leather shorts and a simple grey v-neck t-shirt. I am sure I can find many other ways to wear this coat as it has the perfect thickness for the swiss fall nights and I am sure I can layer it and wear it with a big scarf in winter and make it work. the INKA pattern details are very subtle and therefore very beautiful. I somehow have an overdose from the Inka/Indian patterns but in this case I really adore the design.
