ABOUT KOSTA BODA
Kosta glassworks is Sweden’s oldest still operating glassworks. The furnaces here have been lit since 1742. We welcome you into the warmth to witness a genuine Swedish handicraft. This is your chance to follow the production of Kosta Boda’s products in the glow from the furnaces. From the melting of the molten glass to glassblowing, cutting and painting.
Some of Kosta Boda’s most colourful designers have their studios at Kosta glassworks. Anna Ehrner, Göran Wärff and Kjell Engman work closely together with the craftsmen in the hot shops here. In the area you also find the Kosta Boda Art Gallery where you have the opportunity to see current exhibitions. Kosta Boda’s factory outlet is also located here and nearby also Kosta Outlet and the famous Kosta Boda Art Hotel.
as every year it was a blast to be invited by VITRA for the summerparty during ART BASEL. look at the lovely decoration – so nice! there was cool music and lots of nice art and design to see. there are many different buildings inside the VITRA campus, the newest is by SANA. my favorite one is the showroom by HERZOG & DE MEURON but I also like the one by TADAO ANDO. this years entry badge was a piece of fabric that the tied around our wrists. a nice idea but so far the metall bands were my favorite – I still have them and collected the different colors from other friends that were there.
the food was delicious and there was a nice vegetarian alternative. my favorite was the couscous salad – mmmhhhmm, can I please have one more?! and the ice cream was a touch of heaven on earth too bad I did not check by whom the catering was..
I dunno if you can remember but a couple of years ago there was a bug attack during VITRA PARTY and I was telling some friends about that and literally 5 minutes later the first bug was there and he was followed by friends. I jinxed it 🙂 sorry for that but again it was fun to see all the people hide and run from the almost blind flying bugs.. after one hour the bugs were gone, ouff!
all the friends in the house – eehm at the VITRA PARTY!
thank you Wilpert, Mo, Cristian, Esther and Fleur – it was super nice!
thank you all for making my BIRTHDAY so special – last nights party was a blast!
diana, the cake was awesome and it had “I SAW SOMETHING NICE” written in chocolate powder on top – too bad I didnt take a better photo.. and my mom, she made a cake that matched my dress, unbelieveably nice…
aww, I need a moment to process all that joy and happiness. I will write a bit more about the party in tomorrows blogpost. stay tuned.
Elie Metni is currently completing his Diploma of Higher Studies in Architecture at the Académie Libanaise des Beaux-Arts (ALBA) where he is also a part time instructor. In 2012, he joined the Herzog and de Meuron architecture firm in Switzerland for a year-long internship, where he participated in the design process of various projects. Following his internship, he worked for 1% Architecture in Beirut where he contributed to the development of “Beirut Terraces” interior apartments, a project designed by Herzog and de Meuron. This allowed him to put to practice the tools he acquired in Switzerland. Elie shares a particular interest for product design. He constantly explores the projects’ conceptualization by experimenting with materials and ergonomics. He believes that a project doesn’t end at the completion of its construction but continues as the user starts interacting with the product. He designed several projects in Lebanon and abroad. Orient Express, a café bar in Beirut that he co-designed, has been opened to the public since 2014. Lately he was selected by Starch Foundation to design the 2015-2016 boutique.
WHAT IS STARCH
Founded by Rabih Kayrouz, Tala Hajjar and in collaboration with Solidere, STARCH is a non-profit organization that helps launch Lebanese emerging designers. STARCH is an annual program and a rotation of debut collections where four to six young designers are selected each year. The designers will be guided through the process of developing their collections, as well as promoting them (communication, marketing, branding and press). These collections will then be presented for a period of one year at STARCH boutique. Throughout their one-year at STARCH, the designers also get the chance to participate in design related workshops, seminars and collaborations.
THE PROJECT CONCEPT
As a person interacts with the project and its components, he becomes a part of the intervention, offering the products new spaces to inhabit. He also continues the process by assigning them new functions and expanding the project’s boundaries out of the store.
THE PROJECT APPROACH
The approach features a free central installation of 70 identical wooden stools fitted together to form a new object used as a display for designers’ work. The product can be used individually or as a set depending on users’ needs and spaces. The installation occupies the center of the space and lays under a floating neon light. The first encounter is a copper wall that initiates the radial flow around the center piece.
here you can watch the VIDEO about the project. Elie I am very proud of you, you did an amazing job, I absolutely love the design. when I took a close look at the things on the shelf I discovered the bags by ON SEN FOUT.. I met the girls that make these bags in PARIS at the CAPSULE show – I fell in love with the one with the eagle.. more here >>
I hope you all had a nice time with friends and family. I had two nice dinners at home and had a very nice time. <3 today it is only about relaxing. I started this day with a nice long shower and am wearing my most comfy cashmere sweater. thank you @Nivea for sending this lovely box. there is something nice and new inside. more on the blog soon. merci! tomorrow I am showing you an nice black and grey outfit. I might post a sneak peek on instagram 🙂
so many things to take care of. it is the busiest time of the year and lots of stress is involved. inviting your friends and family, organizing presents, cleaning the house, booking flights or what ever else we have to do before christmas and new years eve. this year I am quiet organized and I already have almost all the presents – have you seen my wishlist yet?
today I wanna share an italian tradition with you which involves red lingerie! I have found this lovely bra and panty at MANOR in basel (bra 39.90 CHF / panty 19.90 CHF) and I can not wait to wear it for new years eve! the bra is really nicely cut with a slight pushup effect – perfect for a sexy cleavage. there is also a slip and tanga but I am a panty lover and I liked the design of the panty best.
so what do the italians do on december 31? they make sure to wear red lingerie. red is the color of good luck and fortune. by wearing red lingerie they make sure the luck is on their side and to get rid of negative energy. it is also very common to give red lingerie as a present and this will bring lots of good luck to the reciver and will protect him from evil in the year ahead. I think this tradition is really sweet and I also read about other funny traditions like throwing your kitchen ware out of the window 🙂 read more here <<
so I already got my red lingerie. what about you? what is your special tradition for the holidays?
I got my hands on this nice limited edition and invited two friends for a wodka shot. I kept the bottle in the freezer to make it look nice and cold and also one has told me that WODKA tastes a lot better when super cold. but not only the bottle came out of the freezer – also the glasses. the glasses are made out of ice and this makes a quick wodka shot even faster. special thanks to thomas who brought me those fancy funny glasses!
About Andy Warhol
“Andy Warhol (1928-1987) remains one of the most influential visual artists of modern times. With a background as a highly successful commercial artist, Warhol reinvented himself as a famous Pop Artist. Warhol went from creating images for advertising and media as an illustrator to using advertising and media images to make his fine art. He quickly became renowned as one of the artists who defined the Pop Art movement, a generation of artists who turned to the worlds of mass commercial production, advertising, and popular culture for the raw materials and inspiration for their work. Incredibly prolific in various endeavours, Warhol is recognized as one of the most influential avant garde filmmakers of his generation, founded Interview Magazine in 1969, produced and managed The Velvet Underground, authored numerous books, was an avid photographer, directed music videos and even hosted his own talk-show on MTV, Andy Warhol died unexpectedly in February 22, 1987 firmly established as one of the most important artists of the 20th century, artist and international celebrity.”
fall is here and I am getting my wardrobe for the season together. something that I really love, shopping and mixing and matching new things with older stuff. I had such a good time lately and was invited to soo many nice places and was able to do so many awesome things. thank you life for bringing nice things my way! I have had a rough start into the year. some of you may know already. I was in the hospital over christmas 2013 because I have lost my sense of taste. anyway, after weeks of high dosed cortison I was able to taste something again but also had to deal with a rather negative diagnose: MS – multiple sclerosis! first reaction shock – wtf! I have just arranged to start my own business with my blog and I have already cancelled my job at Herzog & de Meuron that time. was that the biggest mistake ever? well it turns out NO it was not a mistake to quit my job and start my own business because like this I can work according to me and my personal situation. I have hired a personal trainer in order to keep my muscles fit and healthy. I will soon introduce you to my trainer and the exercices we do. in the photos above you can see me running in the rain and I hope I will be able to do that for a very very long time! stay positive and wish me lots of positive things. a positive mind can fight many challenges and one of them is my personal fight against my own disease!
